Homemade Power Generators Using Energy from the Wind. (Photo Credits)

Harnessing wind power does not necessarily have to come from Turbine, and it does not have to be in large amounts. In fact you can use wind power through a DIY apparatus, which can harness just enough energy for everyday electric-powered devices like a mobile phone charger. Builders and Contractors

Inhabitat.com in fact featured this wind-powered charger that is designed to be installed in a bicycle.

“A clever 16-year-old named Thomas combined his two passions, cycling and electronics, into one very useful DIY gadget. Using a tired CPU fan, an old phone battery, a bunch of electronic pieces and some simple tools, he came up with a brilliant $5 cell phone bike charger to power his phone while riding a bike. With some basic electronic knowledge and a few bits and bobs, you can make your own to make sure you will never end up with a dead phone while on the road.”

Check out the charger here.

Wind-Powered Mobile Device Charger

Interesting Engineering featured the same invention. Electricians

“The base component of this device is an old CPU fan which can be obtained at little or no cost. This fan works as a wind turbine that converts the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. It also uses other components you can recycle from old computers. Thomas’ device can generate up to 4V and 60 mA, but as this alone is insufficient to charge a conventional lithium battery, the AC current is converted to DC to charge up the battery via a Joule Thief circuit, which gives enough voltage boost for the build in Lithium ion battery.”

The Beauty of Neon Lights

Fun Neon Lights

Light Heart

Happiness in Neon. (Photo Credits)

Neon lights evoke some kind of happiness and liveliness to the evening sky. Imagine a place without neon signs and automatically you may think of the term “sadness,” and could even describe the term as “ghost town” if there is not much foot traffic. Builders and Contractors

PBS.Org says Neon signs that are made of neon lights are already a dying art.” We’ve seen them glowing on New York City theater billboards, Las Vegas casinos and Hong Kong high-rises. They cast unbidden light and shadow into restaurants and homes and are a part of the daily scenery for millions. But neon signs, once a vital part of a city’s culture and barometer for its economic climate, are fading out of sight as the once-popular technology disappears from the streets. An online exhibition tells the story of neon’s history, which began purely by accident.”

I have to admit, I was so excited when first I got the supplies, I started bending the wire into the first word that popped into my head! I already have more ordered to take on more complicated phrases. But “Hello” is a great word to practice on because is it mostly loops. My fave thing is that it looks as cool during the day, as it does lit up at night!”

Lighting up Christmas

The Beauty of Christmas Lights

Toledo Zoo, Lights Before Christmas

Light up and Be Merry. (Photo Credits)

Whether you are decorating for your own home, office, or commercial establishment that you own or work for, Christmas lights take the Holiday Celebrations a notch higher – and a lot happier looking.

Hometalk shares a great idea on how to make Christmas even more sparkly and happier through DIY Christmas Lighted Décor. Electricians

“I just love the glow of Christmas lights. The more the better in my book! So I decided to add more to my decor by making a lighted Christmas canvas with a special ‘Believe’ message.”

Know how to make a lighted Christmas Canvass here.

Light up!

The most common Christmas fixture in any establishment – be it a home, office, or a shop is the Christmas tree. And nothing could make it look livelier, and more joyful than Christmas lights!

Two Twenty One shared how to put on Christmas Lights to your tree. Builders and Contractors

“It’s true. I have a system when it comes to putting lights on our Christmas tree. But just hear me out. Growing up, we would throw the tree up and wrap the lights around it. I would stand on one side and my mom would stand on the other, and we would loop the lights around the tree, encasing it in lights. Not until I was older did I grow to not really like that look. It just looks too messy to me. And the tree doesn’t glow like I think a Christmas tree should. Enter Martha Stewart. I was watching her show a few years back when she demonstrated how to put lights on a Christmas tree. Martha said that you should wrap each branch with lights. Eureka! Now, Martha demonstrated on a real tree, which would be more difficult to execute than the type of artificial tree we have.”

The display is a tribute to our fallen soldiers, pulsing to a unique remix of Lee Greenwood’s “Proud to be an American”. Prepare to be amazed at the display, and grateful for our freedoms!”

Always remember where your keys are with Key Organizers

All about Key Organizers

An assortment of keys

Never misplace a key anymore. (Photo Credits)

Keys are important in everyday life, but because it is often shrugged off, it usually gets misplaced. And losing keys usually happen right before you will need it.

And this is where key organizers come into play. Instructables.com says you do not have to shell out a lot of money to get one of your own, because you can make one yourself! “These are pretty cool right? What’s not cool is their price tag, so why not make one that is just as effective and durable for a fraction of the cost? This project in all of its entirety costs ~$6.80 (not including keys). That’s more than $38 dollars less than the name-brand key organizers! Today, I have the honor of showing you how to make your very own KeySmart/KeyBar/Key Organizer. It keeps your keys all organized, easy to use and take out, and no more key ‘jingle!’”

Check out the instructional guide here.

Lego-Inspired Key Organizer

Singapore Office Lifehacker.com meantime shared a step-by-step instructional in how to make a key organizer apt for Lego fans.

“Even though I have a “spot” for my keys and wallet, I still end up misplacing them. The LEGO organizer is a fun and convenient place to store all of your everyday carry things. A standard LEGO base plate is stuck to a wall, while bricks and plates attached to everyday items make them attachable to the mat—never to go missing again. Here’s how to make your own. This fun and colorful project is a great way to keep things organized and show your love for LEGO. LEGO purists beware: I had to modify the pieces to work with my idea!”

Check out the procedure here.

Youtube Channel Vat19 meantime featured a key organizer that will help eliminate the bulk of keys in your pocket. The Key Ninja organizes your keys like a Swiss Army knife, preventing them from becoming a huge wad of metal in your pocket. And despite its slim, half-inch thick silhouette, the Key Ninja can expand to fit up to 30 standard house keys. The handy tool also boasts built-in dual LED lights (so you can see your lock at night) and a bottle opener because you never know when a cold one might come your way. An included “S” hook ensures you can attach a larger key fob.”

Light Shows to See

Amazing Light Shows

LA Geek Dinner

The Magic of Light Shows. (Photo Credits)

Ask any kid or kid at heart if they would like to watch a light show and chances are they would want to watch one.

This star wars themed light show for instance was featured over at someecards.com. Builders and Contractors

“Calling the crazy light show on this guy’s house “Christmas lights” is a bit of a stretch. It’s almost as if the holidays just happened to arrive as YouTuber Tom BetGeorge was put the finishing touches on his Star Wars Rock & Roll Light Show Extravaganza. Sure, there’s a large Christmas tree, but there’s also a drum kit in the driveway! The candy canes make sense, but look like they’ve been sidelined in order to make room for the giant, flaming guitar. The display has been featured twice on Good Morning America, as part of a contest called “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” but it could just as easily been a story about a technically gifted music fan who has lost the plot when it comes to both Christmas and Star Wars. Nice to look at, though.”

Watch the video here.

Let it go

Rare.US meantime featured this house that exhibited a frozen-themed light show as their house Christmas display. “One family from Austin, Texas wants everyone to ‘Let It Go’ this Christmas. The Storms, who have been putting together elaborate light shows since 2010, decided to go with the Frozen theme this year…It took three weekends to set up the more than 25,000 lights, but according to the Storms, it was well worth it.”

This wedding cake featured over at ViralNova.com meantime gives way to an amazing light show. “Disney is taking wedding cakes to a magical new level by creating interactive cakes that recount classic Disney tales. They achieve these amazing results with the help of projection mapping. In layman’s terms, that means lighted images are projected onto a white wedding cake. The animation appears to scroll down the tiers, adding a whimsical, oh-so-Disney touch to the celebration.” Electricians

The importance of Key rings and key holders. (Photo Credits)

Key rings and key holders are important objects that help us not to misplace one of the most important things we need in our daily lives – our keys. Whether we use it for our car, our pedestal, our home, or even our locker, keys are extremely important and losing it could be considered a critical mistake.

Instructables.com shared a unique and great way to ensure that you will know where your keys are once you decide to look for it.

“The first thing I say in the morning after ‘Coffee’s ready!’ is ‘Where’d my keys go?’ – it’s almost a ritual at this point, but at my expense! Key dishes are fine but my foyer isn’t really set up for a table, so an on-the-wall key holder is the way to go! Many of our projects are audio-based, so it seemed fitting to create a key holder out of audio jacks, and it looks good too!”

Check out the photos plus the instructions here.

Crafty and Cool

If you want to showcase your creativity though then you might want to follow this instructional as published by Arts and Crafts Website “Be Crafty.” Mobile Locksmith Service Singapore

“It is always a good day when paint is involved. And it’s a really good day when it’s pink paint. I had left over supplies from our wood bead necklace project from our last workshop. With Valentine’s Day in just a few days I thought I would use the last few beads to make a few gifts for some friends.”

These keyrings featured over at CNN.com are getting controversial.

“Small fish, turtles and other amphibians are being sold in Beijing as mobile phone trinkets and key rings, to the chagrin of animal rights groups. Kept in bags filled with colored, oxygenated water the animals cost around $1.50 each. One vendor selling the animals outside of a Beijing subway station told CNN that the bag contained crystallized oxygen and nutrients. She said that that the animals could live for days but also warned that they should be freed from the bag as soon as the air ran out or they would suffocate. Among the animals being sold are young Chinese soft-shell turtles – the adult turtles are a popular dish in Chinese cooking. The live trinkets have been condemned by animal rights groups who have highlighted the lack of animal protection laws in China. ”

Check out the photos featured in the site here.

If you need more inspiration, then head on over at homesthetics.net, as it published many ways to make decorations out of old keys.

“Keys are common items in our lives. Keys have a very very strong meaning to each individual, a meaning that cannot be understood or interpreted correctly by nothing and no one, it is only the keeper that can determine its true value, its true meaning that transcends the value of materiality and appearance. Keys are not however the main protagonists in DIY projects usually, yes, they can be found in DIY valentine crafts or vintage design lines but in most cases they have a complementary role rather than a decisive one. This happens mainly because keys are not easy to find. Keys are discarded only when we change a lock, loose a padlock or simply find the keys lost by another individual and we have no method to refund it to its owner. However the interest in DIY key projects exists and the possibilities are beautifully infinite thanks to the mysterious nature of the key in its essence and thanks to their uniqueness.”

How to Clean Remote Controls

Regularly Clean Remote Controls in your home and office

Clean remote controls regularly. (Photo Credits)

You hold it on a daily basis, but do you clean it regularly?

Remote controls could be receptacles of germs and dirt, therefore it needs routine cleaning.

Australian website The Organized Housewife shared a quick and easy way of ensuring that dirt and germs do not get passed around in the house via the remote.

“Remote controls are touched by everybody in the house, well ours is I presume yours would be too, even the cat tends to sit on it.  As you can imagine like all other items in the home, the remote control does get a build up of dust, dirt and even germs over time.  Think when somebody is sick and touches the remote, then a healthy family member touches it, they just picked up the germs.  So it’s a good idea to regularly clean remote controls.”

Read the instructions here.

Deep clean it

NT Designs online meantime shared a way of deep cleaning a remote control. Master Electrician

“I’ve seen MX-850s in clients’ homes that look like they’d been used as utensils for eating Chinese food.  The problem is, with it’s big rubber buttons and countless nooks and crannies, the remote is very hard to give a proper cleaning.  It also doesn’t have a single screw holding the chassis together, so taking it apart to clean seems to be out of the question.”

But how do you disinfect a remote control?

“How often do your kids watch TV while shoveling a snack into their mouths? Dr. Reynolds says that when they’re snacking and using electronics, food oils and crumbs are transferred to the electronic surfaces, which then become hospitable environments for germs. So while many of us are focused on keeping our kids healthy by feeding them apple slices or carrot sticks, we often forget what happens when their hands leave the plate and start touching everything else. Messy eating and playing with toys and gadgets – it’s all just another wonderful part of growing up.  But there are simple, common-sense ways we can reduce germs on electronic devices in our homes without taking the fun out of eating and playing.”
