About Glass Doors

Random Stories on Glass Doors

Doors

Amusing stories on glass doors. (Photo Credits)

Glass doors would definitely mean people inside of it can be seen from the outside.

A raccoon featured over Rare.Us proved this true as she kept on knocking on a glass door while looking at the food bowl of a house pet.

“This family knows Rocksy the raccoon well. Why, do you ask? ‘This silly raccoon has figured out that after she has raided the cat food bowl and it is empty, that she will just knock on the door — FOR HOURS — until I refill it!” wrote the person who lives on the other side of the glass. “It is hysterical! She is adorable and has lived in my yard for years.’ Although we aren’t sure how she figured out how to knock, it definitely gets the job done.”

Super clear, it is almost invisible

And because glass windows and doors could be so super clear, accidents can happen.

Just like what had happened in a home of a bow hunter as featured over at Outdoor Overload.

“Sometimes bowhunters like to practice from inside their house. Just make sure you don’t forget to open the glass door! I am guessing this actually happens a lot more than most people think. If you watch close, you’ll see that his glass door is pretty clear and this makes for an easy bow-shooting accident! The bowhunter isn’t too happy after he takes the first shot and the glass door has a big hole in it. I wonder what his wife thought about that?”

For those with glass doors and windows at home, stained glass could be a great solution to avoid those bumps, or simply to ensure that the glass can be seen eve from afar. This was certainly emphasized on one of Jumble Joy’s posts.

“Stained glass can take a simple door layout and make it elegant. Although many people commonly associate stained glass windows with churches or traditional cottages, they can in fact add brightness and beauty to any house or apartment. Unlike standard glass windows, stained glass offers a non-traditional look and can help provide visual interest in any space. However, they are also more expensive to purchase and install, so you should take that into consideration when planning to add it to your home.”

Lytham Windmill

Windmills and scenery. (Photo Credits)

Talk about breath taking scenery. Windmills are known to help harness wind energy, but apart from that, it actually helps improve the scenery in the community that it belongs to. Basically, it transforms ordinary into extraordinary.

For instance in a city in The Netherlands, remains picturesque with functional traditional windmills being an icon in their place. CNN says these windmills are basically a part of living history. Electricians

“The Zaan region is among the oldest industrial areas in the world and in its heyday of the 17th and 18th centuries it was home to around 600 active windmills. At the Zaanse Schans, among its wooden barns, houses and museums, just 10 windmills are still in operation, grinding oil, spices and colorings.”

Modern Windmills

Builders and Contractors In the Philippines, modern windmills have been part of a tourist attraction as featured over at the website, When in Manila. “But, as my eyes were getting droopy and half of my face was glued to the window, I saw fields of Cogongrass as far as my eyes stretched.  From afar, the windmills had looked majestic, but the dreamy vibe of the scenic ride towards it was just as delightful. Imagine cascading fields of fluffy white grass against a backdrop of Laguna de Bay. The view was straight out of a postcard. I couldn’t ask for more.”

But how about water-pumping windmills? Off Grid Quest sheds light on this type of windmill on one of its posts.

“Windmills have been around since the Middle Ages. The first recorded evidence of windmills being used for pumping water and grinding grain was in 7 AD in Persia. Then China got ahold of the idea and it spread to Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean. The European mill appears to have developed independently from the others because the design is so different. The predecessor to our modern windmill dates back to France in 1105 and England in 1180. In the 14th century, the Dutch took windmills to a whole new level with their “tower” mills using canvas sails stretched across four wooden lattice frames like a big X. Their objective was moving enormous amounts of water into higher basins and canals.”

DIY Wind Power

Do-it-Yourself Wind Power Generator

Homemade Power Generators Using Energy from the Wind. (Photo Credits)

Harnessing wind power does not necessarily have to come from Turbine, and it does not have to be in large amounts. In fact you can use wind power through a DIY apparatus, which can harness just enough energy for everyday electric-powered devices like a mobile phone charger. Builders and Contractors

Inhabitat.com in fact featured this wind-powered charger that is designed to be installed in a bicycle.

“A clever 16-year-old named Thomas combined his two passions, cycling and electronics, into one very useful DIY gadget. Using a tired CPU fan, an old phone battery, a bunch of electronic pieces and some simple tools, he came up with a brilliant $5 cell phone bike charger to power his phone while riding a bike. With some basic electronic knowledge and a few bits and bobs, you can make your own to make sure you will never end up with a dead phone while on the road.”

Check out the charger here.

Wind-Powered Mobile Device Charger

Interesting Engineering featured the same invention. Electricians

“The base component of this device is an old CPU fan which can be obtained at little or no cost. This fan works as a wind turbine that converts the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. It also uses other components you can recycle from old computers. Thomas’ device can generate up to 4V and 60 mA, but as this alone is insufficient to charge a conventional lithium battery, the AC current is converted to DC to charge up the battery via a Joule Thief circuit, which gives enough voltage boost for the build in Lithium ion battery.”

See the photos and read about the explanations here.

I designed this alternator WHILE I was building it, using mostly intuition and working around supplies available. Undoubtedly many improvements could be made.”
